The process is called Alkaline Hydrolysis, the same process that happens after burial. We accelerate that process using warm water and alkalinity to gently break down organic materials, leaving the mineral remains behind. The pet ashes are then returned to the families in biodegradable urns.
Our machine runs strictly on electricity. Each aquamation cycle uses about the same amount of electricity as charging an electric vehicle. We no longer need fossil fuels or intense heat to care for our deceased family members.
We use mostly reclaimed water from our underwater treadmill, harvested rainwater and water from our neighbor's agricultural operation next door. We use less than 20 gallons of fresh water in each aquamation cycle. The water that comes out of the machine is then returned to the City of Santa Fe for cleaning and reuse.
Pets are transported from the clinic in re-useable, leak-proof bags, identified with re-useable steel tags and recyclable paper tags. The ashes are returned in biodegradable urns (hard paperboard or Acacia wood) and biodegradable baggies.

Families will register and pay for their their pet's aquamation directly through our online store. This will minimize any mistakes and improve transparency in our services. Please be sure to add your pet's name and family veterinarian in the special instructions on check out.
All pets will also be identified by a paper tag that is completed by the family and a metallic tag that is affixed directly to the pet when they are prepared for transportation to our facility. This redundancy ensures that all pets are identified correctly and the correct remains are returned to the family.
We will receive a text message immediately after you register your pet. This will activate them in our system and we start email communication with you regarding their progress. Once the ashes are ready, we will send a final email about delivery.
You may bring your pet's remains to our facility during regular business hours and we also have complimentary pick-up of remains at your family veterinary office. Please note in the special instructions at check-out the name of your family veterinarian.
You can pick up your pet ashes at our facility or we can deliver them back to your family veterinarian for no additional charge. You can select one of these options at check-out.
We can deliver your pet's ashes to your home in Santa Fe or Los Alamos Counties for an additional $50. You can select this option at check out. We will call you in advance and schedule the delivery time during regular business hours.
